One consistent thing about my art for over forty years is Chinese xuan paper. My artistic endeavour could be summed up as experimenting with xuan paper. Recently I have been using a traditional paste, which I make myself, to affix to paintings together back to back. The translucent quality of the paper allows the images to faintly show through each side.
This particular scroll which will be a kilometer long, when finished takes on a subject matter that has also been with me since the beginning of my painting journey: passengers. I start sketching subway riders when I was in NYC in my early twenties. I now paint Shanghai metro passengers.
