I have several styles or series that I have been rotating through for years. My Big Head series of paintings features compositons built around figures with oversized heads. I have done a lot of live model sketching over the years and still sketch nude models every Saturday, so I am aware of proper proportions, the ratio of the head to the rest of the body. Over the many sketch groups that I have been part of, I noticed that there is a tendency with many artists to focus on the figure; the shape and contours of the body. Often the face and genitalia are blurred or abstracted. My interest is often painting the face and genitalia. Capturing these is not easy in my chosen medium, buy I’m forever trying. My big head paintings might partly be disregard or lack of ability to paint proper proportions, but it also is because humans worlds are so much in their heads. I also like the parody aspect, not taking the human condition so seriously.
